Drinking sake for charity. Does that sound like a difficult challenge? If you’re a sake lover, perhaps the biggest issue may be pacing yourself. In fact, at the 10th Charity Tasting Session “Alcohol to Save the Future” being held at Yokohama’s attractive Osanbashi Hall on March 25th, that’s exactly what the organizers ask of enthusiasts that show up. “Wh-wh-what kind of event would this be if we had to carry you home in an ambulance?”, they joke.
More than sixty alcohol producers will be freely pouring ‘tastings’, including sake breweries, shochu distilleries and wine makers. We count thirty-five sake breweries on the list, among them, long-time Sake Today supporters Yuho, Masumi, Tamagawa and Shichida. We’ll be there, in fact, running a booth, answering questions and, of course, drinking for charity.
The event is organized and operated by the NPO “Alcohol to Save the Future Group”. Yes, that is the officially registered awesome name. We’re hear to save the future, too. But we need your help. Please attend. All proceeds from tickets are donated to three organizations helping children: Children’s House, operated by the Red Cross; the Children’s Cancer Association of Japan; and Ashinaga, which supports children who have lost a parent (or both), or whose parents suffer from a debilitating illness.
Tickets are ¥3500 in advance or ¥4000 at the door and allow you to taste all you want. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food, provided they take any and all garbage home. It’s also family friendly so you can bring the kids (or expect to see them if you are in a party of all adults). Please, save the future; you’re our only hope.
