World Sake Day on October 1st will be here before you know it! How will you be celebrating? Organizations, bars and restaurants around the world will be holding special events on or around that date. We’ll be highlighting a few of them over the next ten days. To start, Ayaka Ito of BESHOCK Ramen and sake bar in San Diego will be hosting an event on the 29th that should be of keen interest to sake fans in Southern California.
According to Ayaka, the event will feature 30+ tastings from 24 breweries in Japan and the SoCal area (yes, there are sake breweries in SoCal!). Takara USA has also sent some special cedar barrel-aged sake for the event. If you’ve never had “taru-zake” (barrel sake), here’s your chance.
Ayaka says, “I just couldn’t sit around and be jealous about other cities having awesome sake events so I decided to host my own.” She also notes that it’s her goal to try to expand the market in San Diego. This should be a good step toward that goal. She’s already done a great job of that through her restaurant’s normal operations.
